Skagit River Flood 10.21.2003 This photo was taken this summer from the berm where the trail drops down to the beach. The water is beyond the last bit of vegetation. The third picture shows Annie standing in the same spot. ![]() This is taken from the same location on 10.17.2003 when we had our first flood. The gage was at 32.3. That night we had 75 mph gusts and a mudslide closed Hwy 20 near Diablo. Luckily no one was hurt. We had completed logging the previous weekend so we only lost a couple of branches and had no other damage. Here's Keith hamming it up quite a bit back from the previous photo. The double maple on the beach is about 30 ft. *behind* the maple on the trail. This was taken shortly after the river crested at 42.2. ![]() This is taken standing at the water's edge looking back at the house. As you can see, there's a bit of berm left. The ravine would hold a fair bit of water also should we start having larger floods. Living near a dam and out of the flood way have their merits! ;) I'll retake this photo after we cut down that ratty fir. Here I am standing in the driveway of our neighbors to the east Les and Becky Hoover. The smudge in the water is a tree going by at a high rate of speed. I'm tired from getting up every couple of hours to check the gage online. I'll get a picture of me standing in the same spot once the river recedes to a normal level. Here we are "trespassing" on the property to the west of us. This lot is ~200 ft. wide and we're in about the middle of it. The river is normally about 400 ft north of its current location. It's amazing what a few feet of elevation does for you. There's only a small fishing shack on the lot. It's not complete without a dog picture! Here's Annie and the Taylors' dog Missy lolling in the grass. Annie's has maximum frothy slobber going on and appears quite rabid. She's just happy. |
