Are we nuts? :)

We drove Upriver Thursday afternoon to check this place out. It was purchased as a summer home so has been used only in summer and needs a bit of TLC. The roof, siding and concrete foundation appear to be in good shape. The realtor stated that the roof did not leak (after being repaired by the original owner/builder several years ago). The deck is a rotten mess and was never completed to circumnavigate the dome. It appears to have been built of poor quality materials and then painted. The structural members of the deck appear to be sound. I would opt to replace the decking and complete it around the house using a variety of decking materials.

It's located on 5.8 acres (3 parcels @ ~2 acres each). It has about 300 feet of river frontage. The Growth Management Act of Skagit County has designated all undeveloped river frontage as "Wild and Scenic" meaning that no new improvements are allowed on the river.

We did not go inside, but peeked through the many windows. The flooring is in good shape although the carpet is a hideous slime green. There is hardwood throughout with tile landings in front of all the doors. There are 3 sliding glass doors (kitchen, 2nd bedroom, main living), a single door (living) and the main entrance is double "French" doors. The stairs leading up to the upper level bedroom and loft are wide (4 ft. at least) and carpeted.

First Glimpse

When you finally get to the homesite after winding your way down maple-lined the dirt drive, you see the side of the workshop.

Pan left

If you look to your left, you get a peekaboo view of the dome roof behind an overgrown landscaped area. The lot is heavily treed with mostly red cedars and maple. There are rhododendrons planted in a few areas. Rhodies are native to the temperate rainforest of Western Washington.

Shop

3/4 view of the shop. The roof is shake and appears to be on its way to being a green roof. It needs de-mossing at the least. There is a wood stove installed and the shop is insulated with a slab floor.

Shop Side

This is the side facing the house. Windows are plexiglass.

woodshed

Behind the shop is a woodshed in great condition with a metal roof. You can get a great feel for the rainforest in this shot. The undergrowth is mostly sword ferns, bleeding hearts and other native wildflowers.

potting shed

To the right of the shop is a small shed. Mostly stinging nettles and maple sprouts.

Pumphouse

Interior of the pumphouse which is hidden behind the plantings in the second picture near the house.
